Following 28 years of stewardship under Camelot, the UK National Lottery is undergoing a change in leadership. The fortunate victor? Allwyn.

The UK Gambling Commission revealed today that Allwyn Entertainment, the newly adopted name for the Sazka Group within the UK, has secured the highly sought-after fourth National Lottery license. Although Camelot has been synonymous with the National Lottery since 1994, the Commission holds the belief that Allwyn’s proposition, spearheaded by Bid Chair Sir Keith Mills, will revitalize the lottery and yield even more substantial proceeds for charitable endeavors.

This triumph carries significant weight, given that the National Lottery has already amassed an astounding £45 billion (equivalent to over $58 billion!) for 660,000 worthy causes throughout the UK, encompassing initiatives in the arts, athletics, cultural heritage, and local communities.

A transition strategy, overseen by Chairman Justin King, is already underway. Allwyn is poised to seamlessly assume daily operations from Camelot upon the expiration of their existing contract on February 1, 2024.

Sir Keith Mills, radiating with satisfaction, conveyed his sentiments: “The National Lottery is a cherished national asset, and we are deeply honored to have been entrusted as its future guardian. We are eager to commence without delay and implement our ambitious plans to restore the National Lottery to its rightful place as a central element of British society.”

He elaborated, “We will accomplish this by rekindling the spirit of unity and anticipation that the National Lottery evokes in each and every one of us, both individually and as integral members of the communities we inhabit.”

Justin King, the head of Allwyn UK, expressed immense satisfaction that their blueprint was selected. He emphasized the significance of the National Lottery as a cornerstone of British society and conveyed their privilege in being entrusted with its stewardship. Their approach centers on guaranteeing the lottery’s prosperity for many years, with a significant focus on responsibly boosting engagement, enhancing safeguards, and ultimately producing even larger donations to worthy initiatives throughout the UK.”
